Since you’re looking to give the community the ability to participate, you can allow them on any posts or any pages, the ability to comment.

You can even use the Plug-in called Akismet to guard against spam.

If you go to http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ you’ll see that there are over 4,000 plug-ins and over 22 million downloads of them!

Obviously some are better than others, but you can add/delete/activate/deactivate plug-ins at any time. In this way you can completely customize your sites and add a lot of functionality that might not otherwise be there.

There is also some great content management features. If you’re careful in planning you can organize all of your posts and pages by categories, and you can use tags to help group similar posts and pages. This will apply more-so to the pressandjournal website but it can be useful anywhere.
